October was a good month for me, mostly defined by my holiday to Italy as being a well deserved and refreshing break. I used to basically live out of one makeup bag all the time as I was always between uni, home and my boyfriends but that has changed over the last year as I’ve stayed put in one place and rarely even have nights away anymore. So packing up a makeup bag for a week was definitely a tough task, but it made me really see which products I love and can depend on. It was also strange wearing makeup everyday on holiday, I normally only wear makeup a few times a week as I work from home, but it was nice to put in a little more effort again! Anyway time to move on to my favourites.
Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in Amaze
I mentioned this new eyeshadow in my Colourpop haul post and I’ve head over heels fallen in love with it. Amaze is a gorgeous rose-gold coppery shade with a lot of shimmer that can be worn on its own or with other shadows. I absolutely love pairing it with a burgundy type shade such as MAC Cranberry, it’s a killer combination. I’m so impressed with the formula of this eyeshadow, it blends really easily but is super long lasting, literally nothing will budge it. This has definitely been my most worn eyeshadow this month and I’m sure it’ll get lots more wear in November too!
Essie Bahama Mama
This is pretty much my go-to autumnal nail and it was my polish of choice for holiday. I absolutely love this nail varnish because it has that gorgeous autumnal berry hue but without being too dark, I find a lot of polishes from a similar colour way look almost black whereas Bahama Mama doesn’t lose any vibrancy. I took this with me on holiday but I didn’t actually retouch my nails at all. They had a few chips but it really wasn’t that bad, pretty good for six days wear!
Max Factor Creme Puff Blush in Nude Mauve
I just have so much love for this blusher and it is fast becoming one of my all time favourites. I used to always go for bright blushers and I was pretty heavy handed but nowadays I like a more subtle effect, and this is just perfect for the job. The formula of these is so similar to the Hourglass blushers, they just happen to have a completely different shade range. I don’t own anything like Nude Mauve but it just flatters every makeup look.
Nude by Nature Touch of Glow Bronze Stick
It’s quite unusual to be posting about bronzing in autumn but I just had to tell you about my new love! I’ve always struggled with bronzing, it looks great on other people but just looks muddy on me, or doesn’t show up. I’ve liked bronzers before but it has never become an integral part of my makeup routine. For some reason I was feeling experimental one day and picked up this bronze stick which I’ve had for a while. I drew the crayon on, heavy-handed, and tried out a multitude of brushes for blending. This and a stippling brush = bliss. Since then I’ve used it every single time I’ve worn makeup, and now without it I feel so pale! I am planning on doing a full review as I have so much more to say so watch this space!
Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip in Alyssa
This is another product I mentioned in my Colourpop post which I knew was going to become an instant favourite, and it definitely has! Alyssa is the most gorgeous mauve-rose shade and is perfect for everyday wear. I love the formula of this too, I’ve kind of gone off a completely matte finish, and a satin “natural but not drying” finish is just ideal. This is just a beautiful lip product thats had a lot of love in October!
NARS Copacabana Illuminator
I’ve always been such a fan of NARS but to be honest I’d never paid their illuminators any attention, then I heard quite a few people mention Copacabana and I knew I had to have it. Again, this has become an everyday product for me but I seem to use it differently each time as it’s so versatile. Sometimes I use it before my foundation, other times I mix it into my foundation or I pat it on top as a highlighter – sometimes I use it all three ways! It’s just a gorgeous pearlescent shade that gives a beautiful glow.
Rimmel 107 Lipstick
Of course this was gonna be in my favourites, I’m so predictable. Rimmel 107 should be renamed the ultimate autumnal lip, as it really just is the best. I’ve been reaching for it more and more as I just love the colour, the longevity and how comfortable it is to wear. I know it gets a lot of hype and it’s boring to hear it again and again but honestly trust the hype, you’ll love it!
Rimmel Scandaleyes Mascara in Extreme Black
I’ve only had this for a few weeks but it had to feature in my October favourites as it has become such a regular in my makeup bag. In fact, this was the only mascara I took with me on holiday as I knew it covered all basis. This is the best mascara I’ve tried in a long time, it’s defining, volumising and lengthening all at the same time and just does wonders for my lashes. I love the extreme black version as it really is as black as things can get. The perfect mascara!
