I’m always looking for new ways to make useful posts which really show how products actually perform rather than just saying oh it’s so nice and I just love it. Recently I’ve seen a few YouTubers try out a new formula where they vlog their day and report back on how products are lasting as the hours go by, and I thought to myself, why can’t I do this on my blog? I thought I’d pick five products to test throughout the day (I will wear other makeup too) and I’ll photograph my mug at multiple times throughout the day to report back. I picked a fairly standard work day to do it, with a few errands to run. If it goes well next time I’ll try do an uptown day or something to really put the makeup through the paces!
I’ve used True Match Foundation in the past and I just didn’t like it, my skin was bad at the time and it clung to all my blemishes and dry patches. Today application was a bit better, however it took a lot of buffing into the skin for a streak-free finish. I also feel like the shade I have (N1) is a little too pink toned for me, I do like the finish though but I can’t imagine it’s great for dry skin as it does cling. I’ve had the Sleek Face Form Contouring Palette for a while now, but I thought I’d revisit it. Every Sleek powder I’ve tried has been very highly pigmented, and this palette is no exception. I definitely picked up WAY too much contour shade at first so had to do a lot of blending, but I actually quite like the colour. The blush is absolutely beautiful, such a great dupe for NARS Orgasm, and the highlighter is stunning too.
I’m really not very good at brows as you can probably tell, I had years of them being under a fringe so I’m catching up ok! I find the Rimmel Brow Shaker pretty easy to use though, although it’s far from foolproof. You have to use a light hand for this one but once I’ve brushed my brows through it leaves a fairly natural finish. I wish the tip was pointed though, I struggle to fill in the tails with it.
The Blank Canvas Master Palette is such a welcome new addition to my collection. I’m a big fan of matte shadows and this has a gorgeous selection. I used core all over, brazen on the lid, forza in the crease, downtown on the outer corners and corruption to subtly line my lids. All shades performed excellently and blended seamlessly, very very impressed. Last but not least I popped on some of the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita. Now you probably all know I love this, but I wanted to show you just how well it lasts, and how subtly it fades too. Application of these is so simple (it’s just a giant crayon after all) and Dolce Vita is a gorgeous my lips but better shade.
Mid afternoon check in: 2.30pm
My morning was spent working and then I headed out for a few errands in town (puppy party) and had some lunch. Here’s a post-omelette look. The foundation is looking a little bit shiny on my t-zone especially on my chin, and the makeup on my nose has gone really cakey. It has also rubbed off on a blemish (so has my concealer) so things are looking much less flawless. Overall though it isn’t bad, I didn’t use a setting powder or spray so I’m sure a spritz would have kept things a bit more matte. I’m really impressed with the Sleek Contour palette, all three of the powders have barely budged, especially the contour shade itself, really little change from this morning.
My brows are also still very much in place, I normally use a brow gel to set them and didn’t this morning so the Rimmel powder a lot has a good staying power. My eyeshadow is also doing well, I did use the NARS primer underneath as I have ridiculously oily lids and it just wouldn’t have been a fair test! But so far so good on the eye front! The darker liner shade has faded a fair bit but there is still a decent amount of definition.
Whilst the lip pencil has worn off a fair bit, there definitely is still some pigmentation there. My lip shape is still really nicely defined yet it looks like my lips are like that naturally (which they aren’t). I just love the way this lip pencil fades, so natural but still doing the job in hand.
Evening check in: 6.30pm
Ok and now the lighting starts to get a bit shoddy but hopefully you can still get the gist of things. My foundation hasn’t actually got that much worse from my post-lunch update, it definitely hasn’t gone any shinier which is a relief (I was getting into disco ball territory), it maybe has faded a bit more on my cheeks and forehead but it has faded quite evenly. Unfortunately the Sleek powders haven’t lasted so well. There are definitely still remnants of the contour there which is good but the blush and highlight are nowhere to be seen.
On the other hand both my eyeshadow and brows are still looking pretty fresh! I imagine this would be a different story without my NARS primer, but some shadows don’t last that long even with that so I’d give a thumbs up to the Blank Canvas palette for longevity. I really can’t believe my brows are still in place especially without a setting gel, seriously impressive.
The lip crayon is well and truly gone now but I have had dinner and lots of water so not that surprising. Reapplication is absolutely no issue though, it’s really easy to work on top of. However, I think I’ll stop reporting on this one now!!
Last check in: 10pm
So let’s just run through quickly what is actually left on my face. There’s still a bit of foundation left on my face and there has been no oxidisation at all. I’m not big on the application of this foundation but actually I’m quite impressed with how it fades. Brows have been a serious win all day, there is definitely still product there, maybe not as strong as my earlier check in but still good. Eyeshadow has also been really long lasting, there is now a tiny bit of creasing and the colours have started to fade but that’s really not bad going. Blush, lips and highlight all went a long time ago now, there is still the faintest bit of contour there. Contour powder was definitely the best from the Sleek palette. So that’s it!
I really hope you enjoyed this new post style. Do let me know if you want me to do it again and recommend some products to try! Also let me know if it was a little too longwinded and if I should cut back next time and do less check ins!
