Back in April, I did a little spring makeup collection series, all about my top picks for lipsticks, blushers and nail polishes throughout the season. Well, I’ve blinked and suddenly it’s July and in my books, that’s officially summer, so all this week I’ll be posting about my summer makeup. I’m going into a little more detail this time round, I’m talking glosses and base products too, so expect a full week and a touch more of this series. I thought I’d kick things off with lipsticks because that’s normally the first thing to change as it turns to summer!
Bobbi Brown Rosy (Review)
Rosy is a shade that follows me throughout the whole year but gets a particularly large amount of love in the summer. Rosy itself is a gorgeous watermelon pink-red colour which is universally flattering. I struggle with reds so this is a great way to wear a red-ish lip without it looking too stark against my skin, plus the sheer formula makes it easy to wear such a bright shade. Whenever I mention this lipstick I say that I must pick up another shade from the Bobbi Brown Sheer Lip Colour collection, and I still really must as it’s one of my favourite formula lipsticks, creamy, comfortable, and relatively long-lasting.
MAC Crosswires (Review)
There was no way I was going to write about summer lipsticks without including Crosswires as for me, it’s the summer lip colour. Crosswires is similar to Bobbi Brown Rosy in that it’s half way there to a red, and incredibly wearable. It’s slightly more coral than Rosy and a tonne more pigmented, but equally as comfortable on the lips. If you want to try a bold lip that isn’t too in your face then I’d definitely recommend MAC Crosswires.
NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Yu
I got NARS Yu for Christmas and although I love the colour, it hasn’t had much love until recently. Yu isn’t really that winter appropriate so finally, I’m getting a chance to wear it and I can see it becoming a firm favourite for summer. Yu isn’t for the faint-hearted, it is certainly bold, but if you want a bright fuchsia which has a slight gloss appearance then you can’t go wrong with Yu. I really love pairing it with NARS Lip Gloss in Priscilla – see the look here.
Rimmel Kate Lipstick in 32
You all know about my serious love for Rimmel 38, best lipstick ever, but occasionally I mention its close relative Rimmel 32. I picked this one up by mistake a while back, thinking it was my beloved 38, but I’m so glad I made that mistake as it’s beautiful in its own right. I’ve become quite a fan of peachy and orange lipsticks and this is one of the best I’ve tried as it’s not too orange. I love the formula of these lipsticks as they’re long-lasting, have a natural satin finish and are so comfortable to wear. One of my faves.
Wet n Wild Liquid Catsuit in Pink Really Hard
This is the newest lipstick in my collection and I’ve fallen in love with it instantly as a summer shade. It’s actually a liquid lipstick but doesn’t feel heavy at all on the lips, and although it’s matte it isn’t too drying. The colour itself is gorgeous, it’s a cool-toned Barbie pink that would just pull together any outfit. It’s definitely a fun lipstick and I can see myself wearing it on summer nights out!
Which are your favourite summer lipsticks?
