Three Lipsticks On Review

A while back I complained that there was too much “themed” stuff on my blog and whilst I’ve definitely written a lot more product reviews since, I still feel like I’m not quite there with my old school blogging style. A few years ago I used to do a series called¬†top three¬†and it was where I did mini reviews of the top three lipsticks, highlighters, nail varnishes etc that I was loving at the time. Well, I’ve decided to kind of bring it back but not even in a top three style, I literally just thought today I’d pick up three random lipsticks and review them. There’s no theme, I’m not necessarily loving them at the moment and I’m not trying to use them more either. I just want to review them. Beware, this post contains a lot of chin.

Hourglass Lip Stylo in Activist
These were so hyped up when they were released as lots of big bloggers received the whole collection, and normally I can see past the hype but I actually fancied one of these as I’m all about sheer but buildable and comfort lip products. Well, this ticks all my boxes. Activist is an absolutely gorgeous rose shade which isn’t too much darker than my lip colour so just looks really natural and subtle. The formula is so creamy to apply without feeling heavy, and whilst I wouldn’t describe them as sheer, they’re quite forgiving so you don’t have to be too precise. These are really expensive, I think my most expensive lipstick, but for me it’s so worth it. I haven’t tried a formula like it and I’ve had so much love out of it since I’ve owned it.

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip in Echo Park
I don’t reach for liquid lipsticks all that much but when I do, it’ll often be the Ultra Satin Lip in Alyssa by Colourpop – an absolute favourite of mine. So after months of loving it I decided to add Echo Park to my collection. This is one of their best-selling shades and I bought it even though I wasn’t sure if it would suit me as everyone else swears by it. At first, I wasn’t sure on the peachy nude shade but now I absolutely love it. It makes such a nice change from all my pink-toned lipsticks and I’ve found myself reaching for it a lot. I find the formula of these so much more comfortable than most liquid lipsticks as it doesn’t feel heavy or drying at all. It does, however, cling to any dry patches, as you can see above it’s not very forgiving for dryness on the lips. It doesn’t look as noticeable in person as this is obviously quite a close-up, but if you have really dry or flakey lips I’d avoid the formula.

Clarins Joli Rouge in Guava
Guava is one of the new Joli Rouge shades for Autumn ’17, and it’s a formula I’ve never tried before. The Joli Rouge lipsticks are known for being very creamy, moisturising and with a satin finish, and promise up to 6 hours of wear. The formula is definitely creamy, it reminds me of the Cremesheen lipsticks from MAC, but just like the Cremesheen lipsticks, I find that this feels quite heavy on the lips so I’m very aware that I’m wearing lipstick when it’s on. The shade Guava is really pretty and a nice lean towards red without being too bold, it’s also slightly sheer but buildable so you can control the final look. If I’m honest, I don’t see this becoming a regular in my makeup collection as however much I like the colour, I’m not mad on how overly-creamy it feels.

Have you tried any of these lipsticks and if so, what are your thoughts?
