Recently, I’ve been lucky enough to attend a fair few blogging events and the very generous goody bags are definitely helping me cope with my current spending ban – it doesn’t feel quite so painful when there are still new beauty bits to try. I thought today I’d check in with what I’ve been trialing recently and share my first impressions as it has been a little while since I’ve chatted about all things new in beauty. I won’t ramble too much, for once, let’s just get on with the mini reviews.
Makeup Revolution Flawless 4 Palette
It’s been ages since I’ve tried anything from Makeup Revolution and I’ve realised, although generally I use a lot of high street makeup, I’m a little bit of an eyeshadow snob as nearly all my palettes are high end. Well with this one, I’m a total convert. I stayed at my mums for a long weekend and just took this with me so I could give it a proper good testing and I was so overwhelmed by both the quality of the shadows and how gorgeous the shades are. I’ve definitely gravitated towards the burnt orange and brown tones in here as opposed to some of the pinks but I think I’ll be a bit braver soon and experiment. I’m thinking of doing a full review of this one soon as there’s so much to say, do let me know whether that’s something you’d like to see.
Urban Decay Eye Pencils in Woodstock & Junkie
The Urban Decay Eye Pencils have been on my wishlist for ages as so many people I know swear by them. The other week I headed to an Urban Decay Event (watch the vlog) and they very kindly gifted us some shades to try. Not going to lie, these wouldn’t be my normal pink but actually I think I can make them work, especially the teal shade. I’ve still only swatched them on my hand but they felt so much more like ‘gel’ than kohl and were seriously long-lasting. I reckon I’ll give these a go under the eyes next.
MUA Velvet Lip Lacquer in Tranquility
This is another one I picked up at a blogging event recently and it was a seriously blast from the past as I used to adore MUA. I was completely obsessed with their eyeshadow palettes and their UD dupes were in my collection way before I could afford actual Naked palettes. With this one, sadly, I’m not quite as impressed. I thought this nude shade would be right up my street but for me it just looked way too orange and didn’t suit me at all. I also found it applied quite patchy so I’d probably give these a miss in the future.
Urban Decay Troublemaker Mascara
This came in at perfect timing as I seemed to have ran out of all of my mascaras all in one go. I’ve been using this for a little over a week now and it’s a nice mascara, it does a really good job at volume without going too clumpy and it isn’t too much of a wet formula. For me though there are better out there from the high street and I wouldn’t say this is worth the extra money. It also does absolutely zero for lengthening so I’d avoid it if you really want to make your lashes long.
Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray
So pleased to have this one back in my life! Another perk of the Urban Decay event was this decently-sized travel All Nighter Setting Spray and whilst I’ve been so tempted to trial it straight away, I’m actually going to take it on holiday with me as hopefully it’ll keep my makeup in place even on the hotter days. I’ll be interested to see how it compares to all the high street setting sprays I’ve used in recent years so I’ll report back.
Nip + Fab Eyeshadow Palette
I love Nip + Fab skincare so I was very intrigued by their makeup line as generally I’m always a fan of skincare come makeup brands as they tend to be softer and kinder to the skin. Now I can’t say that this has particular skin benefits but overall I’ve been really enjoying using it. I’d say the shadows look darker in the pan than they do on the skin, in fact, the shades generally look quite different when actually applied. But you can’t really go too wrong as all the shadows compliment each other nicely and the two shimmer shades, in particular, are gorgeous.
ELF Total Face Palette
I feel like face palettes are something I just don’t have in my collection which is fine on an everyday basis but as soon as I go away I end up filling up my makeup bag with highlighters, blushers and bronzers which take a hell of a lot of space up. So when I received this I knew it’d be a worthy addition to my makeup. The pigmentation of these is way better than I expected, for some reason looking at the shades I thought it’d be subtle and sheer but all of them have so much pigmentation but yet stay easy to blend. It’s a pretty inoffensive palette which compliments most looks and I can see it becoming a travel favourite.
Clarins Cushion Foundation
I wasn’t sure to include this as a ‘new in’ as I’ve already written a full review on it, but I quickly realised that I haven’t had this that long so it really is still a ‘new in’ into my collection, I just happened to love it straight away. Yes, that’s the spoiler alert. I love this stuff. Head to my full review to find out exactly why and I’ve also put up some photos of it in action to give you a good idea of how it looks on the skin.
