We’ve only got just over a week now until Christmas and I’m already planning what I’ll be wearing on my nails on the big day! Of course, festive nail polishes start way earlier than the 25th itself so I’ve got a whole range of nail polishes I’ve been making my way through which are maybe slightly too sparkly for the rest of the year. December is definitely the time to get all the reds and all the glitters out, and then start throwing them together to create pure festivity. Let’s take a look at my top picks.
OPI Red Hot Rio
I couldn’t do a festive post without including a classic red and the latest edition to my collection is OPI’s Red Hot Rio. Now this shade can double up as both a festive shade and a summer shade as that has the perfect amount of brightness without being too orange-toned like a lot of summer polishes can be. The formula of OPI polishes is really long-lasting and with just two coats you’re good to go.
I’ve always loved the formula and packaging of Butter London nail polishes and this came in the gift set I featured in my recent gift guide. The shade Afters is a gorgeous deep red shade that is just perfect for a vampy Christmas. A lot of dark reds can actually end up being too dark – I have a few which are basically black, but After is light enough so you can still enjoy the red tones running through it.
Models Own Sardonyx
Onto the fun ones! Models Own Sardonyx is part of their Velvet Goth range and I picked this up at work with Christmas in mind. The formula is so unique as it has so much sparkle and glitter yet has a matte finish – strange right? I don’t generally like matte polishes as I find they chip easier and I admit, this isn’t the most long-lasting but it’s just so damn Christmassy that I couldn’t not include it. It’s a really quick and easy way too of getting a nice red sparkle without having to use two polishes.
Essie A Cut Above
The final three shades are all glitter shades and they can either be worn on their own, on top of all the nails or as an accent. I personally love going for the whole thing in glitter over another shade at this time of year as an accent nail is just too subtle for Christmas. A Cut Above is one of the prettiest polishes I own and makes for an unusual take on a Christmas manicure rather than the normal red, gold and silver. The light pink chunks of glitter are so pretty and look gorgeous over a light pink manicure.
Butter London 24K
The 24k shade is the start of the show in the Butter London Gold Standard Gift Set as it’s the top coat that can be worn over all the other shades. I’ve only swatched this one so far but the gold effect applied evenly and smoothly so I have high hopes. This is going to look great over nude shades, darker reds like Afters and over classic reds and I can’t wait to try it out.
Sensationail Set In Rhine-Stone
I’ve thrown this one in as more of a party season nail polish than a festive one as I tend to pick reds and golds more than silver on Christmas. It’s also a peel-off nail polish so is perfect for last-minute rushes as you’re heading out the door. I’m thinking Christmas parties. Again the glitter distribution of this is really even and it looks nice either on its own or over another polish. I want to try this over the top of a normal non-peel polish to see whether it can be peeled off easily. This would be seriously handy if it can!
