I know that Christmas feels like quite a distant memory already but I couldn’t miss out on sharing what I got for Christmas as there’s so much goodness here. I normally write this post up straight away but actually having a few weeks to test and use the products makes this more than just a haul and more of a first impressions post. As you probably know, every Christmas and birthday I head out with my dad makeup shopping as my present and whilst I did go with a wish list, like always I deviated away – so here’s what I chose!
I wanted this one as soon as it came out, actually, I wanted it as soon as the promos got released but last year I had a bit of a tight time financially and I couldn’t really justify spending 40 quid on a new palette. But this was top of my wish list for Christmas and I have not been disappointed. I know a few peoples said the formula isn’t as good as other Naked palettes but I don’t understand this at all as mine feels like the same old reliable Urban Decay. The shades are all gorgeous, I do wish there were a few more lighter ones as it’s quite a “heavy” palette for everyday use but it has already gotten a lot of love and will continue to have just that.
I’ve never bought a foundation on our Christmas and birthday expeditions as I used to find them less exciting to buy than lipsticks, eyeshadows, and blushers. But actually, this year I was really excited by the idea of having a new high-end foundation as I’ve been using exclusively drugstore base products for so long now. I went with the Lock It Foundation as I wanted something for special occasions that was super full-coverage. Boy, this is full coverage. I’ve used this a few times and love how flawless it makes my skin and it really is the perfect shade match. One time I used it, it went super patchy though as it reacted badly to my moisturiser or primer so I need to experiment a little bit more to find good combinations.
A new Hourglass blush was on my wishlist as they’re my favourite blush formula by far and whilst I intended to go with something more subtle like Mood Exposure, my love for colour got the better of me and I went for the brighter pinky-coral Incandescent Electra. And wow, what a great choice! I’ve pretty much used this every single day since Christmas – which is mad for me as I normally use a different blush daily – but I just can’t get enough of it. It has so much glow to it and it just lifts my complexion like no other. Full review will definitely be on its way!
Alongside the Heat palette, I knew I wanted to try Fenty Beauty. We actually queued for Fenty which I’ve never done for makeup before but I’m so glad we did as this highlighter duo is just perfect. It’s the lightest shade combination, Lightning Dust and Fire Crystal, and is one of the most ‘wow’ highlighters I own but yet still blends beautifully. I love both shades for day and evening looks retrospectively.
Now, this wasn’t actually from our makeup shop, my sister kindly picked me up this for my Christmas present when visiting America and I absolutely love it. It’s the perfect travel-sized palette and has everything you need to create both day and night looks. The shades are exactly to my taste and I’m so impressed with the Marc Jacobs formula which I hadn’t tried before – it reminds me of Too Faced which is one of the best formulations. I’ve already used this palette a lot and I think it’ll go with me whenever I go away anywhere!
Dolce Vita featured in one of these makeup trips a while back and it fast became one of my favourite lip products ever. In summer I lost my bag and I was so devastated as it contained my holy grail Dolce Vita so when I saw it on the NARS stand I just knew I needed it back in my life. I’m so glad I have it again as it’s my perfect everyday lip shade and a comfortable easy to apply formula. Full review.
I cannot resist a MAC lipstick and I had one of the moments where I found myself picking up the same lipstick shade in various locations throughout the MAC stand so I knew I had to have it. See Sheer is part of the lustre range which is one of my favourites from MAC and is a gorgeous subtle red. It reminds me of Dolce Vita in the sense that it’s so easy to wear and will become an everyday staple. I just love my sheer reds!
Of course, I had to pick one of these up. Everyone seems to love them and I felt like I was seriously missing out by not having one in my collection. Now, I haven’t actually tried this yet as it seems quite full-on for everyday use and when I’ve dressed up so far I’ve been reaching for the Marc Jacobs palette or Heat one. But this is next on my list to try as I’m sure I’m going to love it. I’ll report back soon!
Last but not least is a Huda liquid lipstick. I used to hate liquid lipsticks but now I have a couple that I absolutely love and thought I’d try the Huda formula as it’s meant to be one of the best. I spent an absolute age swatching and ended up with Wifey which is a gorgeous mauvey nude shade. I’ve only worn this once and I was surprised with how watery the formula was but this did meant it felt much more comfortable on the lips than other liquid lipsticks. I think I need to try it again properly on a day out to get a full judgement going but I suspect I’m going to like it!
