Last year I started a ‘three lipsticks’ series which I absolutely loved (post one and post two) as it gave me the chance to really easily review products and show some lipsticks in action. Today I decided to make a part three and when picking out the lipsticks I wanted to review I noticed there was a theme – sheer reds. I feel like when most people think of red lips they think of a bold lip and whilst I totally love a bold, red lip, I reach for my sheer reds a lot more. My lips are naturally quite pigmented and a dash of a sheer red just makes me look more put together, without the hassle of a bold lip. Here are basically my three favourites.

NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita

Dolce Vita was the second lip pencil from NARS that I bought as I wanted something more ‘everyday’ appropriate than the berry shade Damned, but yet loved the formula. Well, I love Dolce Vita even more than Damned. This is actually my second Dolce Vita and it’s definitely my most worn lip product. These pretty much feel like nothing on my lips, I always forget I’m wearing something when I have a NARS Lip Pencil on. It’s the kind of colour that is so easy to reapply as when it fades it just blends into my natural lip colour and I only top it up for that subtle boost of colour. If you want to start your sheer red collection, I’d definitely go for Dolce Vita.

Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Verbena

I rarely choose lipsticks online as I like to get swatching in person, but when Harry headed to the states I took a guess with Verbena and I definitely picked wisely. For one, these lipsticks smell absolutely delicious. If you like strong fruity scents, you will hate this, but I basically want to eat the thing. Not only does it smell divine but I love how smoothly it applies, it really glides on effortlessly without being too creamy – I’m not a fan of thick, creamy lipsticks. This shade is definitely darker than the others and the least sheer but it’s such an easy to wear red tone. A far cry from a bold red lipstick, which makes it perfect for everyday.

MAC Lustre Lipstick in See Sheer

See Sheer is another relatively new lip product in my collection – I’ve clearly been focusing on my sheer reds recently. I wouldn’t say it’s quite as natural looking as the other two as it has a more coral look to it, making it more spring and summer appropriate – although that hasn’t stopped me recently. I really like the Lustre finish of MAC lipsticks as whilst they aren’t that long-lasting, they’re so easy to apply again that it doesn’t really bother me. See Sheer also has more of a shine than the other two formulations so really plumps my lips and makes them look naturally healthy. Love this one.
